About the Event
“We had a meeting in our faith community to discuss the climate crisis. I was surprised to hear the depth of people’s grief and their feelings of being overwhelmed. I hadn’t realized so many people are struggling with this just like I am.”
– Frances, Ottawa
We live in an extraordinary moment, as we witness tremendous threats to life on Earth and feel a sense of urgency as well as a longing for positive change. Faced with ecological, social and political breakdown, we can feel overwhelmed by fear, despair and other painful emotions. How can we stay engaged, resilient, creative, and empowered to act for the healing of our world?
Heart Land workshops offer a space and process to speak of our feelings and honour their role in calling us to action. We draw upon the wisdom of our faith traditions to share strategies for becoming resilient, creative and empowered to act.
"The supportive and interactive process evoked in me a wellspring of hope
and determination for our future."
~Rev. Laura S., Ottawa
“The workshop we hosted was one of the most helpful and beneficial afternoon retreats I have ever attended.”
-Rev. Brian Cornelius
“The workshop introduced me to such powerful ways of looking inward & helped me to heal some of the grief I was carrying (especially around the pandemic). I left feeling renewed and optimistic about my role in personal and global healing.”
- Rev. Jenni Leslie
We are part of a global network of facilitators of “The Work That Reconnects”, led and refined over the past 50 years by Joanna Macy. This body of teachings and group work helps participants transform despair and apathy, in the face of social and ecological crises into action for social healing and collective thriving. The process leads to a fresh way of seeing the world as our larger living body.
Heart Land in-person and online events include grounding exercises from our wisdom traditions, small and larger group activities, and teachings and reflections structured on the Work that Reconnects. Our events include tools and processes to:
· connect with people who share similar cares, dreams and concerns
· feel and honour our pain for the world, including ecological grief
· turn anxiety, grief and anger into courage, creativity and joy
· nourish your capacity to act for positive change
· help you find your most meaningful response to the challenges of our times
Heart Land events are designed to be an island in time where, removed from other distractions and demands, we can focus together for a long enough period to explore our deeper responses to the planetary crises facing us. Looking at this in a group helps us to sustain the gaze and share our collective wisdom.
We partner with faith groups and other workshop hosts to share this powerful and transformational work.
